My first blog post
I decided it was time for me to build a portfolio again and start writing a blog on the projects I'm working on.
It has probably been about 4 years now since I last had a portfolio website with a blog. Life have been so busy, but with everything going on in the gaming industry, I thought it would be a good time to start my portfolio over from scratch.
So here it is, my first blog post!
Who am I?
My name is Santiago Rubio, I’m a software and electronics engineer. Although soon after finishing my Masters degree I took a shift and decided to focus more on video game development. I actually starting using the Unity Game engine around 15 years ago, when it was still the early days of Unity 3. In the past 4-5 years I kind of focused myself mostly on Editor Tools, workflow automation and pipelines.
I have my own brands:
- Dypsloom: to publish games and assets on the Unity AssetStore
- Real Scope Studio: for contracting jobs which go beyond video games, into digital experiences
I also do contracting jobs for the following companies:
- Opsive: Unity Asset Store developer
- ZA/UM: the game developers and publishers of the award winning game Disco Elysium
It may seem like a lot of companies to work for in parallel. But that’s the way I’ve always been, I love working on many things at the same time, this way I never get bored and I tend to learn a lot more by doing so. And I’m always able to use what I’ve learned in one project for the others.
What is my dream
My dream is to develop a game where you take care of creatures that evolve organically depending on how you take care of them.
Since I was a kid, I’ve been really inspired by Nintendo games and JRPGs in addition to a few others. games like:
- Mario Sunshine
- Sonic Adventure 2
- Final Fantasy (all of them)
- Fantasy Life
- Xenoblade (all of them) and much much more
Developing the game of my dreams would require a lot of resources and experience. My goal is to put enough money on the side, while also building a lot of experience by working with as many talented people as possible, for me to finally take that leap.
What is this blog for
Well in this blog I will post about stuff I’m working on (as long as it’s not under NDA of course!). As a way for me to keep a record of my journey. And also a way to document all my research, tips/tricks and much more.
And if it can also be useful to a few of you that come across this website then it will be all worth it.
So that’s it, I’ll try to write a post at least once a month with things I’ve learned, updates on my work, life, etc… See you in the next one!
